behind the scenes 🤖

If you want to understand how automation on Instagram works, here's exactly how we do it!

Introduction 💻

Here you'll find everything you need to understand automation on Instagram. This is basically what we do every day for our clients 👇

This guide aims to give you a thorough understanding of how to effectively use this method by providing clear images of the settings, detailed explanations, and data-driven tips to guide you in the right direction. Each aspect is designed to simplify the process and help you achieve the desired outcomes with greater confidence.

In addition, the guide will break down the costs associated with each step, from purchasing the necessary equipment to estimating the monthly running expenses. By offering a clear financial overview, you can plan your resources more efficiently and avoid unexpected costs along the way.

With over five years of experience managing more than 50,000 child accounts, all the information presented here is based on rigorous testing. These methods have been repeatedly applied to thousands of accounts, ensuring that the settings and environment provided for Instagram automation are as optimized and reliable as possible.

Setup

The Mother/Child Method 🤰️

Unlike the traditional follow/unfollow techniques, this strategy involves the establishment of interconnected accounts: a central “mother” account and several “child” or “slave” accounts that serve as extensions to drive targeted traffic toward the mother account.

___

In this method, automation tools are crucial, enabling users to program child accounts to replicate various actions—such as following, unfollowing, commenting, liking, and even sending direct messages—targeting users who align with the niche of the mother account.

These child accounts work collaboratively, interacting with users within the specified niche, thereby enhancing the visibility and reach of the mother account.

The implementation of auto-direct messaging (auto-DM) to the new followers of the child accounts effectively introduce them to the content or offerings of the mother account. This interaction is designed to create a seamless and engaging introduction, aimed at maximizing interest and retaining followers.

Mother/Child Method

While the child accounts actively engage in outreach and interaction, the mother account focuses solely on content creation.

By concentrating on delivering high-quality content, the mother account can steadily grow its follower base and engagement levels without resorting to aggressive engagement tactics.

Overall, the Mother-Child approach represents an innovative solution to navigating the algorithmic challenges posed by Instagram, all while aligning with the platform's automation policies.

It streamlines the process of follower acquisition, providing a structured method for growth that leverages both automation and targeted engagement.

Pre-account Creation 🙋‍♂️

There are many guides and methods available on how to create mass Instagram accounts. The procedure for creating these accounts often evolves as Instagram introduces updates.

___

Following the correct steps during the creation of each individual child account is crucial to prevent issues such as action blocks and verifications, which can disrupt account activity.

With experience managing 50,000 accounts, we occasionally encounter phone verifications or temporarily locked accounts. However, we always maintain a surplus of resting accounts ready to serve as replacements. In most cases, it is faster and more efficient to replace a blocked account rather than attempting to resolve the blocks manually.

Puchasing Instagram Accounts : The limitations ❌

Aside from the obvious risk that you may not be aware of the methods and procedures used to create these accounts, from past experiences we have realized that these accounts often caused issues within four months. A few further examples of these risks are as follows:

___

1. Account security, for instance, can be compromised. The seller may still have access to the secondary (recovery) email, and in one previous case, a seller managed to gain control of purchased accounts by resetting the password.

2. There has also been a trend of accounts being sold that were initially phone-verified. These accounts typically have the phone number removed after creation so that buyers can input their own phone number. From our prior testing, we observed that purchased accounts had a higher percentage of phone verifications over time compared to manually created accounts that used a permanent phone number. In such cases, when Instagram requests phone verification, the use of a permanent phone number creates a higher trust level, which is crucial for long-term account stability.

3. One test we conducted involved purchasing Instagram accounts to assess their validity. These accounts were rested for two weeks without any login attempts, connections to automation tools like Jarvee, or any other actions performed. Despite being advertised as high-quality accounts, some of these purchased accounts were still removed by Instagram during that time. The cost and effort of testing these accounts for the Mother/Child method outweigh the time and resources required to manually create accounts.

4. Another major issue is the cost. We have yet to see a seller offering mass handmade Instagram accounts that are fully profiled—with profile pictures, bios, followers, comments, and posts—tailored to customer specifications at a reasonable price for the Mother/Child method.

Virtual Phone Numbers Vs Physical Simcards 📱

Virtual Phone Numbers 🔢

When creating a new Instagram account, you will be prompted to enter either a phone number or an email address. We strongly recommend using the phone number option for registration rather than an email address. Using email addresses can lead to additional complications during the registration process and in the later stages of account usage.

___

When opting for email addresses, we have encountered several issues, such as verification codes not appearing in the inbox, security challenges when purchasing bulk email addresses, and problems with phone-verified accounts (PVA) where email accounts still request phone verification codes. This undermines the reason for choosing the email option in the first place.

At this point, you have two options for phone verifying your accounts: physical SIM cards or virtual phone number services. To activate your Instagram account, you’ll need to receive and enter an SMS code. We will now outline the pros and cons of each option and explain why we prefer physical SIM cards over virtual numbers for account creation.

There is an abundance of virtual number services available online. We have used many of them over the years, and they can be a great, affordable option for account creation. However, we do not believe it is worthwhile to use virtual number services for mass account creation in long-term mother/child campaigns. The issue lies not with the virtual number services themselves, but with the repeated use of different virtual numbers every time Instagram requests phone verification. The frequent change of phone numbers doesn’t reflect typical user behavior, as it is uncommon for someone to change their phone number often. This inconsistency can raise red flags with Instagram. While there are providers that allow renting virtual numbers on a monthly basis, it is not cost-effective compared to using physical SIM cards.

If you are using the mother/child method for a "churn and burn" campaign, a virtual number service might be the preferred option. Tools like Jarvee even offer the ability to auto-verify accounts using virtual numbers if a phone verification is required.

However, for those pursuing a long-term strategy, we highly recommend purchasing physical SIM cards. In the event that Instagram requests phone verification, the same number can be reused, which helps establish higher trust levels. Since most real-life users do not frequently change their phone numbers, sticking with a permanent solution better mimics genuine user behavior.

Sim Cards

Physical SIM cards also offer additional benefits, such as allowing account creation on other platforms without the need to purchase multiple virtual numbers.

There are various platforms where you can purchase physical SIM cards in bulk, such as eBay. Bulk SIM cards can also be found in marketplaces within phone forums for as low as $0.07 each. We recommend finding a seller based in your country to streamline the process.

Physical Simcards 📱

There are many guides that attempt to replicate the account creation process using PC-based phone emulators; however, based on our testing, we have concluded that the best method to replicate a phone is by using a physical device.

___

Unlike other guides, our tested method incorporates a human approach at every step of the account creation process. We have observed that when automated tools are used for account creation, they tend to have a higher percentage of deletions, often without Instagram allowing any attempts to restore the account.

PC phone emulation software has several limitations, including the lack of a touchscreen, unreliable network connectivity, and unrealistic app performance—all of which can be detected by Instagram's algorithms. While we do not discredit the use of PC-based phone emulation software in the account creation process, we believe that utilizing a physical phone significantly increases the chances of your child accounts lasting longer and reduces the time required for account recovery, such as overcoming multiple verification blocks, as the initial account creation is executed correctly from the outset.

When creating mass Instagram accounts, we utilize two types of phones.

- Phone A: Samsung A20e
- Phone B: Cheap burner phone

Phones

For those following our method, we highly recommend having two phones, as the right devices will ensure time efficiency during the account creation process.

As mentioned, we use multiple Samsung A20e phones (Phone A) throughout the signup and account creation process. This phone meets the system requirements to run the Instagram app smoothly, featuring long-lasting battery life, adequate storage space, and, most importantly, 4G capability. If a 3G-only phone is used for the signup process, it will result in slower data transmission and response times compared to a 4G device. Using anything less than a 4G-enabled phone will increase the time required during both the account creation and post-signup stages. Phone A contains the SIM card with a 4G data plan, which is never removed from the device.

Phones

The burner phone (Phone B) is used solely during the signup process. When creating an Instagram account, the initial screen prompts you to verify via phone number or email address. Our method requires a real phone number, necessitating a physical SIM card. The phone number is entered in the Instagram app (installed on Phone A), while the verification code is received on Phone B. When purchasing a burner phone, we recommend selecting one with long battery life, minimal bloatware, easy SIM access, and dual SIM slots.

Having multiple burner phones with dual SIM slots allows you to receive two Instagram verification codes, as two SIMs can be attached to the phone. This setup saves time by eliminating the need to frequently switch SIM cards between devices. Phone A is designated for creating accounts, while Phone B is used to receive the verification codes for each physical SIM number.

If you plan to utilize our mother/child method, we encourage you to invest in purchasing these types of phones in bulk. Having multiple phones will significantly decrease the time needed for mass account creation.

Being Organised 📂

Bio Sheet ⌨️

Being organized is crucial when creating mass Instagram accounts, and we strongly recommend using an Excel sheet for efficient account management. This Excel sheet will serve as a central repository for all the information needed to create an Instagram account, and it will be your go-to resource when dealing with issues like email or phone verification.

___

The following fields should be included in your Excel sheet:

- Sim Number
- Phone Number
- Full Name
- Password
- Username
- First Name (Hide this field after merging with the surname to create the full name)
- Surname(Hide this field after merging with the first name to create the full name)
- Bio
- Bio Count (Maximum of 150 characters, and hide the cell once finished)
- Email
- Comment Filter Text

Ensure that the fields are arranged in this exact order, as Instagram requests the information in the same sequence during the account creation process. This structure will streamline your workflow, allowing you to quickly access and update details as necessary.

Sim Organisation 📞

We physically attach a numbered sticker (which can be purchased from platforms like eBay or Amazon) to each SIM packet, making it much easier to locate which SIM is assigned to a specific account. For example, SIM number 001 is allocated to Username: David_steve.

___

In the event of a phone verification request for an account, this system allows for quick retrieval of the corresponding SIM packet since all relevant information is stored in the Excel sheet.

Before creating the child accounts, we strongly recommend pre-filling the account information into an Excel sheet. In the long term, this approach will save time and make it more efficient to locate and manage your accounts, especially when dealing with mass account creation.

Expense Sheet 💰

We recommend that everyone maintain a digital expense sheet to outline all incurred costs. An expense sheet helps you track your monthly running costs, such as data plans, equipment, IT expenses, Jarvee subscriptions, and other tools, and it enables you to assess whether the mother/child method is financially sustainable.

___

Additionally, an expense sheet allows you to prioritize your expenses over a specific time frame. Depending on the demands of your campaign, you may need to increase your child account activity, such as boosting follower numbers or extending the accounts' lifespan. For instance, if you're executing a seasonal push for a product, such as Christmas decorations, you’ll likely need additional resources, including more scrapers, IPs for those scrapers, and extra child accounts. This will inevitably increase your overall expenses.

Besides monitoring cost increases, an expense sheet can help you identify where savings can be made. Most of our savings came from bulk purchases of equipment. By conducting cost comparisons with different suppliers, we were eventually able to reduce equipment costs. This process is ongoing, and continuous evaluation of your expense sheet is necessary to find new areas for cost reduction.

Whether you are an individual or an agency, it’s essential to be fully aware of the costs involved in implementing the mother/child method for potential clients. An expense sheet allows you to track and assess setup costs and monthly expenditures for each client based on their goals. To provide an accurate quote and understand potential profit margins, it's critical to have a clear picture of your outgoings.

Given the nature of the mother/child method, the first month is typically dedicated to account creation and warming up the accounts. A typical client would need to be retained for at least two months in order to see the full benefits of this approach. For providers, the return on investment generally starts in the second month, as the initial fee charged to the client covers setup costs. Industry standards for mother/child service providers range between $3.50 and $5 per child account, depending on the plan selected by the client.

Finally, an expense sheet also helps you identify unauthorized charges. For example, during our own bank reconciliations, we have occasionally discovered duplicate charges, and the expense sheet played a crucial role in helping us recover those funds by recognizing discrepancies in our monthly expenses.

Photo Hash 📸

Each child account requires its own set of photos to appear more authentic and genuine. We recommend uploading a minimum of 9 photos per child account, as we have observed a higher ratio of conversions and follow-backs on accounts that have more images uploaded compared to those with fewer.

___

However, obtaining unique images for 1,000 child accounts can be challenging. From our experience, there haven't been any issues with using the same images across various accounts as long as those images are altered in some way. We recommend altering the images in bulk using the following methods:

- Bulk Photoshop editing script
- Hash Manager

There are several Photoshop scripts available that allow you to make minor alterations to images in bulk. This can include adding watermarks, changing colors, resizing, adjusting transparency, or applying filters. A useful tutorial to check out is "How to Watermark Multiple Photos in Photoshop CC" on YouTube.

The Instagram algorithm has the ability to interpret and detect images by analyzing the MD5 hash. Using Hash Manager, you can bulk modify the MD5 code for each image, ensuring they are perceived as unique.

We utilize both of these automated methods when preparing sets of images for mass account usage. Within about an hour, the same set of images can be modified to be uploaded across 1,000 accounts. Since each image is now considered unique, it becomes impossible for Instagram to detect any duplicate content.

Hash Manager

Renaiming Images 🖼️

We take an additional step to ensure each image is unique for the mother/child method by also renaming each individual photo. We recommend using the free software Bulk Rename Utility, which can be downloaded from https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/.

___

This software allows you to rename files or images in bulk, making the process efficient and straightforward. Not only does this further help in making each image unique, but it also keeps us organized. By renaming images in bulk, we can track where each photo is being allocated to a specific child account, ensuring smooth account management and reducing the likelihood of Instagram detecting duplicate content.

Biography ✏️

Instagram’s visible profile area allows each account to have 150 characters, which can include text and emojis. In the mother/child method, a well-written and structured bio can significantly impact your success. A carefully crafted bio can increase your conversion rate by 30%.

___

If your goal is to ensure the longevity of your accounts, we strongly recommend that each child account has a unique bio. Many companies have failed in their attempts to implement the mother/child method because they used the exact same bio for all their child accounts. This creates a large digital footprint that Instagram’s algorithms can easily detect, posing unnecessary risks to your child accounts.

Unique bios also make it harder for competitors to locate your child accounts and decipher your marketing strategy. If you use the same bio text for every account, competitors could easily perform a simple Google search and find the majority of your child accounts, exposing your method and reducing your competitive advantage.

A proven method for creating unique bios in bulk is to extract and modify existing bios from profiles in your niche. You can then use spintax to increase the number of variations of the extracted bios. To gain a better understanding of spintax, check out the tutorial "What is Spintax?" on YouTube.

When spintax is applied effectively, it can save you a lot of time and prevent bio duplication. A helpful website that we use to generate spintax variations is http://sp1n.me/.

Pro tip: To further increase the spintax variations, we recommend incorporating emojis into your bios. Not only does this boost variation, but it also adds visual appeal and dynamic attraction to your profile. However, keep in mind the Instagram bio character limit of 150. An easy way to check the bio character count in Excel is by using the following formula: ```=LEN(A1)``` Where A1 is the column containing your bio text.

Whether your campaign goal is to direct followers to a mother account, generate website visitors, leads, or inquiries, we strongly recommend refraining from posting a URL in the child account bios. Placing a URL in the bio creates a detectable footprint on Instagram, which can directly connect your mass child accounts to your mother account.

This connection not only increases the risk of Instagram identifying your entire network of child accounts but also compromises the integrity of your strategy. Later in this guide, we will explain how to track and monitor conversions made by each child account without the need to include URLs in their bios, ensuring that your accounts remain more discreet and effective.

Account Creation 👨

Over the years, numerous guides have been released showing how to create accounts in mass, but with each Instagram update, the process has become more difficult, rendering most of these guides obsolete.

___

This guide has been written to demonstrate what can be achieved when the mother/child method is implemented correctly. We will share all the necessary Jarvee settings, but note that the software we use to prevent Instagram from detecting mass child account creation is custom-built for our needs and will not be disclosed. Important: The steps below must be followed in the exact order to avoid increasing the likelihood of Instagram challenges during the account creation process.

- Profile picture (post)
- Following
- Bio
- Comment blocking
- Story tap
- Like and comment
- Picture posts
- Connect to Jarvee

As we rely on our own custom-built app, which performs additional processes and applies filters to optimize our strategy, we will not be disclosing the details of this app to protect our method.

___

While the steps and practices outlined in this guide are effective, caution must be exercised when using any public method for the mother/child technique and bulk account creation. These public methods can never guarantee long-term effectiveness, as Instagram continually updates its algorithms, increasing the risk of detection.

Profile Picture 👤

The profile picture you choose must be relevant to your niche. If you are reusing a limited set of images, ensure you have followed the steps outlined earlier in this guide to alter the images properly.

___

When uploading the profile picture, select the option "Also share this photo as a post", so it appears on the account's grid. It's important to note that this initial post will not have any captions or tags. This image must be uploaded during the sign-up stage, not afterward, to maintain the appearance of a genuine account. This early upload also helps in building initial trust with Instagram's algorithm, as it shows consistency in account setup.

Profile Picture

Following ⭐

After uploading the profile picture, Instagram will present you with a list of suggested celebrities to follow. Follow at least 10–15 verified blue tick users (famous people).

___

This helps to make your account appear more authentic to Instagram’s algorithm, as it mimics typical user behavior. If you notice that the follow suggestion page only displays non-verified users, scroll down and wait until verified users appear before proceeding with the follows. Following verified users adds credibility to the account and reduces the risk of early action blocks.

Biography 🖍️️

We recommend using the following MySocialUp method for writing an effective bio. This formula has been tested and proven to be highly effective for conversion rates in the mother/child method.

___

Here is the structure:

1st line – Emoji | Spintax + Call to Action (CTA) + Unique Selling Proposition (USP)
2nd line – Emoji | Text related to your niche
3rd line – Emoji | Unique Selling Proposition (USP)

The 1st line includes a call to action encouraging users to follow the account. The 2nd line should include text directly related to your niche, providing context and relevance. The 3rd line emphasizes the account’s unique selling point, offering an additional reason to follow. This format ensures the bio is engaging, niche-specific, and drives user interaction while also being unique across multiple child accounts.

Comments Blocking 🤚

It is very common for child accounts to receive comments questioning the legitimacy of the account or even comments linking to the mother account. These negative comments can harm your conversion rate as others may see them and lose trust in the account.

___

Since it is challenging to manage and monitor negative comments on a mass scale, we recommend adding a negative keywords list to the “Manual Comment Filter” in Instagram settings for each child account.

This step should be performed after completing the bio. We have not experienced any issues using the same set of negative keywords across all child accounts.

To apply this filter: Go to: Settings > Privacy > Comments > Manual Filter.

Comments Blocking

Examples of keywords to block include: reseller, fake, duplicate, stolen image, steal, copy, scam, scammer, @mother_account_name, report, permission. If a comment includes any of these negative keywords, only the commenter will see it, while it will remain invisible to all other users. This helps maintain the credibility of your child accounts without affecting their engagement.

Story View Tap 👆️

Once you have finished profiling your child account, we recommend viewing the story posts of the verified members that you followed on the "Follow Suggest" page. This action mimics typical user behavior and helps strengthen the legitimacy of your accounts.

___

Story View Tap

Key observation: On the 3rd story view of a brand-new account, Instagram will present you with a story mode tap tutorial, which requires tapping to view the next story. This action serves as a signal to Instagram that the account is being operated by a real user rather than a bot.

This step is critical and must be completed manually on the phone before connecting the account to Jarvee. By doing this, you replicate the natural behavior of a new Instagram user, which is essential for creating a lasting child account.

Likes and Comments 💓

After the account has been created, we recommend liking 5-10 posts from verified members (celebrities) as an immediate step. This action helps to further establish the account as an authentic user rather than a bot.

___

In addition to liking posts, we also suggest commenting on at least 2 posts from verified users. From our experience, this practice improves the long-term performance of the account, making it more resistant to Instagram's detection algorithms.

This step should be completed right after the account has been fully profiled. While some guides recommend delaying these actions, we have successfully implemented them within the first 20 minutes without encountering any issues.

Picture Post 📲

Now that your account is fully profiled, we recommend proceeding to upload the additional 8 images, ensuring a 5-minute interval between each upload. This strategy has been tested and shown to reduce the likelihood of triggering account verifications over the long term.

___

In total, there should be 9 images, which is enough to fill the visible screen of most phones. From our testing, posting more than 9 images did not result in an increase in conversions or follow-backs.

By following this method, the total posting procedure for each child account should take around 45 minutes. This slower, staggered posting approach helps mimic the behavior of real users, minimizing red flags with Instagram’s algorithms.

Connect to your Automation Software ⚙️️

As soon as the 9th image is posted, you can log out of your Instagram account and import it into Jarvee. Before connecting, it is crucial to copy the additional Jarvee settings we have listed below.

___

Some guides recommend a 24-hour delay between account creation and connecting it to Jarvee; however, if you follow this guide, such a delay is unnecessary.
As long as the creation IP is close to the proxy's public IP, no delay is required. Please note, the connection delay is different from the warm-up delay. In cases where you rent a 4G mobile proxy located in a different geographic region, allow for a 24–48 hour connection delay.
This might still lead to verification and action blocks, and we strongly advise against IP hopping.

Jarvee ☠️

UPDATE:
Jarvee is Permanently Closed. I am not going to shill them here but you should do your own research for successors. You won't find them by Googling, try joining closed groups of automation professionals and they'll be able to help you (if they trust you).

• I also removed all Jarvee configurations as they no longer made sense.

We developed our own Jarvee successor in-house (not for sale).

• Jarvee's prices have been left in the cost breakdown, as we use this as a basis for amortizing development hours too.

Data 📊

Scraping 🕸️

A scrapper account is exclusively utilized to gather data for your child account. Each Instagram account has a limited number of API actions it can perform monthly before encountering restrictions.

___

The scrapper account employs all these API allocations to collect data, which is then transmitted to your child account for executing actions such as following users, sending direct messages (DMs), viewing stories, and more. Effective scrapper accounts can remain functional for several months of continuous use. A reliable scrapper account is one that has been thoroughly profiled, aged, and used at intervals to mimic normal behavior. As the name implies, a scrapper account should be employed for data scraping and then discarded once it has been flagged.
This strategy helps minimize risks to your child account from any issues related to the scrapper's activities.

Obtaining Sources 💦

In order to obtain a source list, we recommend that you find seed keywords in your niche. These keywords will be used to locate larger Instagram pages.

___

There are various online tools that can help you find/display a list of Instagram profiles based on a keyword/s; however, we saw many inconsistencies with real engagement/relevance to the niche. Often, we would be displayed with profiles which upon inspection would not convert to a goal.

The method we recommend, as suggested throughout this guide, is to search on the Instagram app manually. An in-depth source analysis usually takes a full week to complete, which includes the finding of sources, inspection, engagement, relevancy, popularity, and future growth.

A quick search on Google for your niche keyword will display the top-ranking competitors, and this can be used as a good starting point for your source list. It is still important to analyse the quality of a source.
We use a custom-made bot that analyses a list of sources for various metrics. These metrics include and are not limited to engagement, comment profile checks, frequency of posts, scanning of prohibited words in the comments, and our own quality scores for popularity and growth. These checks can be executed manually and can take some time, but they are a highly necessary process as it saves time and money (the use of scrapers/Jarvee/data cost) in the long run.

Another method of obtaining your seed keywords is to use Google Keyword Planner. This is a tool provided by Google which allows you to enter a keyword in order to view/evaluate search metrics e.g., search volumes. The tool also provides associated keywords, long-tail keywords, and external but niche-related keywords which you may have never considered. This collection of data can be used to find further sources by manually searching on the Instagram app. Other similar free tools include https://keywordtool.io/ or https://kwfinder.com/.

Our testing has shown that targeting smaller accounts in the initial phase of the mother/child method has resulted in much higher quality follow-backs, as a result of these smaller accounts being highly engaging and having fewer bots or accounts that follow/unfollow.A smaller account (<20k followers) is usually more receptive to engaging with its followers,
resulting in a better source for Jarvee compared to a larger account.
We have noticed that smaller accounts are more likely to provide exposure to your mother account by shout outs/mentions on their story without prompt.

Another advantage of manually scanning for smaller accounts is that it helps in identifying large sources in your niche.Smaller accounts tend to follow reputable larger accounts. These larger accounts should be added to your collection of source lists.
Instagram profiles can display a message stating this account is “Followed By: [source],” which is a form of endorsement by an account displaying to its followers that they are following the mother account.Followers of a source are more likely to follow back a mother account if Instagram displays the “Followed By: [source]” message. The mother account can also be displayed in the follow suggestion box to followers of a smaller account as a result of the follow back. This can lead to a natural growth which will complement the mother/child method.

If you are working with clients, another advantage of using smaller accounts during the initial stage is that the results will be quicker, as the quality of the followers is higher and more receptive compared to a larger account follower list (1 million+) which often contains ghost profiles, bots, and inactive users over the years. The process of starting the mother/child method using smaller hyperactive accounts will give you additional time to locate and collect larger sources whilst the client is still able to see results on a daily basis.

We consider a source to be a larger account if it has a following of over 1 million.
Although this source may seem large, if you have 1,000 child accounts running, it can take less than 3 weeks for this source to be depleted. It is essential to gather multiple larger sources to avoid any periods of inactivity from the child accounts. The need to continuously search for sources is decreased when finding a high-quality larger source. This source is easier to maintain and does not require updating often, which involves removing existing followers from the source list to avoid duplicate DMs/followings from multiple child accounts.

When analysing a larger source, if it becomes apparent that many of the smaller sources do follow this bigger account,it is a good indication of the quality of this larger account.
When evaluating a larger account, an important note to consider is that a higher number of comments per post does not necessarily mean that it is a good source. We have seen an increased use of engagement pools/pods which results in the same group of people commenting on every post. To an average user, this can display an active account; however, this is a false screen of engagement. We advise avoiding adding these accounts to your source list as the followers are less likely to be authentic or may even be purchased. This is another affirmation to manually check each source and the posts individually.

4G Proxies 📡

Instagram automation has shifted significantly over the years, moving away from using traditional data centre IP addresses to employing mobile 4G proxies.

___

Using data centre IP addresses for the mother/child method has become highly impractical. Most providers offer overused or “burned” IP addresses, while those offering private data centre proxies charge rates that are often not cost-effective for the mother/child approach.
In contrast, 4G proxies are more dynamic, rotating and adaptable, making them a far better solution.

Data centre proxies have a significant limitation in that only 2-3 Instagram child accounts can be connected at any given time.
These proxies are static, which prevents IP rotation, a critical feature for this method to succeed.

When you use 4G proxies that offer rotating IP addresses, it becomes possible to connect more Instagram accounts per proxy without creating a digital footprint.
Our recommended best practice is to connect no more than 15 child accounts per 4G proxy.
In our experience over the last three years, sticking to this configuration has consistently yielded successful results with minimal issues.

In some tests, we experimented with connecting up to 30 child accounts per 4G proxy, setting shorter IP rotation intervals of 15 to 30 minutes.
However, during these tests, we noticed errors that occurred while the IPs were rotating.
Each time the IP changed, even for a split second, it caused disruptions like DM sending failures, especially when running Jarvee on a large number of accounts.
When managing 1,000 child accounts, these frequent, albeit brief, interruptions can add up over time and impact the effectiveness of the campaign, such as follower growth.

We previously relied on highly regarded providers like Airproxy. As our client base expanded, it became more cost-effective to create and manage our own 4G proxies. Providers generally charge anywhere between $80 and $135 per month for a 4G proxy.
By developing our own 4G proxy system, we've managed to bring the monthly cost per proxy down to $6.73, which amounts to $0.44 per child account each month. Running our own infrastructure offers better cost efficiency compared to renting proxies from external sources.

Another potential issue arises when new Instagram accounts are created in one geographical location, only to be connected to a rented 4G proxy based in a different region or country.
This can trigger verification checks from Instagram, as it’s easy for the platform to detect significant changes in IP location.
To avoid these issues, we recommend creating child accounts in the same geographical location as your proxy setup. This ensures seamless integration of new child accounts into Jarvee within minutes, without running into verification problems.

Initial breakdown of start-up costs to run 500 accounts, you will need the following:

Dongle: Each dongle can run 15 accounts safely.
500 accounts / 15 accounts per dongle = 33 dongles required
33 dongles required x $55.00 each = $1,780.00

Orico Dongle Hubs: Each dongle hub has 10 dongle ports.
500 / 10 = 50 dongle hubs required
50 dongle hubs required x $45.00 each = $2,250.00)

Jarvee – 500 account subscription: $230.00 per month

Mobile Phones: $205.00 Samsung A20e (you can create all 500 accounts using 1 phone, but that will take hundreds of hours based on our guide procedures. We recommend purchasing a minimum of 10 phones if you want to scale up while saving time/costs).
$205.00 per phone x 10 = $2,050.00

Location 🌍

A highly overlooked aspect, and one that we view to be the most important factor when implementing the mother/child setup, is the geographic area. Location plays a major role in the success of your campaign, from the initial child account creation process to the rotation of IPs.

___

Having multiple locations when creating child accounts decreases the risk of using the same IP address repeatedly. This risk becomes more prominent when creating over 1,000 accounts.
We recommend using multiple locations during mass account creation to ensure that 4G IP addresses are not being reused.

A more advanced approach includes conducting further research into the reputation of network speeds and gathering cell mast data, for example by using tools like mastdata.com and other paid services.

Dongles 🗝️

Dongle Comparison 🫰

If you search on eBay, Amazon, or AliExpress, you will find many brands/models claiming to be 4G high-speed dongles.

We have tested some of the more available and sold brands/versions to evaluate their performance in terms of:

- Connectivity (important for IP rotation)
- 4G speed / bands
- Heat output over time
- Antennas
- Software features (DHCP option)
- Price

Dongles

Connectivity 🛜

Network reconnection time plays an important role when using 4G proxies.

___

To change the IP of a 4G proxy, the dongle needs to reboot, simulating airplane mode on/off. The dongle must then reconnect to the SIM card network to acquire a new public IP. If the reconnection time is slow, it negatively impacts the mother/child campaign by causing child accounts to have longer waits to reconnect to the 4G proxy.

Bands 📶

The LTE standard spans multiple frequency bands, each assigned a designated number.

___

These numbers correspond to a frequency range in MHz and the regions they serve. If purchasing dongles from AliExpress or Alibaba, confirm that the model supports a band in your country. You can find a full list here: LTE frequency bands - Wikipedia

Heat 🔥

The heat produced by dongles running 24/7 is often underestimated.

___

If you are using a USB hub like the Orico, which holds 10 dongles, the temperature can rise significantly in the room. We found that the higher the dongle temperature, the more reconnection errors occurred. Cheaply made dongles also present a fire hazard. In our offices, we operate over 3,000 dongles across several London locations, each fitted with a thermostat AC unit to ensure optimal temperature for peak performance.

Dongle Antennas 📡

Some brands offer dongles with small attachable antennas, claiming to boost Wi-Fi range.

___

However, our tests showed no improvement in range or speed that would benefit the mother/child method. Therefore, paying extra for these antennas is unnecessary.

Software 🧑‍💻

Different dongle brands come with proprietary software.

___

It is crucial that the software receives continuous updates, as this reflects the brand’s credibility. We have encountered dongles from Chinese brands infected with malware, using the connection for illegal activities such as DDoS attacks. Many dongles also lack features like DHCP, which is essential for managing 4G proxies on a local network.

The following dongles have failed to pass our checks and did not perform well in the long term.

4G Settings ⚙️

The network configuration on some dongles is set to auto-detect, which can lead to connections defaulting to 3G mode.

___

We recommend changing the settings to 4G only. This simple change significantly reduced errors caused by IP rotation and network reconnection.

Dongles Settings

Raspberry 🍓

We highly discourage the use of Raspberry Pi (all versions) due to its unsuitability for the mother/child method. Multiple tests have shown that it is simply not a valid option for the following reasons:

___

Performance: The Raspberry Pi struggles to maintain a higher number of connected dongles. Errors were observed when connecting just seven dongles to each unit. While this setup might work for a very small mother/child strategy, the essence of the mother/child method lies in its ability to execute bulk actions. Therefore, utilizing a limited number of dongles across multiple Raspberry Pi units proves impractical compared to alternative solutions.

It's important to note that each dongle and dongle hub requires a specific power input. After connecting a certain number of dongles and hubs, the Raspberry Pi is unable to supply adequate power to support these connections.

Price: The cost of Raspberry Pi is prohibitive. As of this guide, the latest version with 8GB RAM is priced between $80.00 and $150.00 each. This price is nearly triple that of alternatives available from AliExpress. While we cannot disclose external sources to safeguard our business, a simple search will reveal hundreds of brands offering the same items and hardware specifications under different logos and branding.

The mother/child method can become quite expensive, and achieving a 30% savings on the initial setup while also enhancing performance is highly desirable.

Hosting 🌐

Jarvee Hosting 🤖

The mother/child method necessitates the completion of numerous actions simultaneously across all accounts. Jarvee is capable of executing these actions, but the success rate is contingent on the performance of the PC on which it is installed.

___

Jarvee support recommends a maximum of 250 accounts per installation. While it is possible to purchase a license to manage more accounts—up to 500—this configuration requires splitting the accounts into two installations of Jarvee for optimal performance. Thus, you can buy a single license but operate two instances of Jarvee, each managing a maximum of 250 accounts. Jarvee specifies a minimum PC requirement to efficiently run the maximum number of accounts.

When using Jarvee, you have the option to either purchase a VPS (Virtual Private Server) or a dedicated server, or to run the software on your own private PC continuously. For typical Jarvee users managing 100 accounts or fewer, a lower-specification VPS or dedicated server suffices and will function without issues. However, to implement the mother/child method on a larger scale (1,000 accounts or more), it is essential to upgrade to a higher-spec VPS or dedicated server, which can become quite costly and increase your monthly expenses.

For example, a 32GB Hetzner dedicated server costs approximately $55.00 per month, leading to an annual expense of $810.00, including the setup fee. In contrast, a private PC with similar specifications may cost the same, but ownership of the physical machine eliminates ongoing rental expenses associated with a VPS or dedicated server.

How much power does Jarvee require?

The technical specifications needed for the computer or VPS where Jarvee is installed largely depend on the number of social accounts and the specific activities you wish to automate for each account. For typical use—managing 2-3 social accounts and posting up to 10 posts per day—a machine with 2GB of RAM and a dual-core CPU should be sufficient.

However, as you aim to automate more social accounts, more powerful hardware is necessary. Managing 10 or more social accounts demands at least 4GB of RAM. We recommend a minimum configuration of 32GB RAM, an i5 processor, and Windows 10. Specifications below these recommendations can significantly diminish the efficiency of activities on Jarvee. Therefore, we highly advise owning a physical machine, as it is likely to be more cost-effective in the long run compared to renting a VPS or dedicated server.

Web Hosting 🛜

To achieve sales effectively on your website, it's essential to select a hosting plan that can support your daily traffic.

___

We advise against using extremely low-cost hosting options, such as those priced at $1, as these can lead to website crashes and timeouts.

As your website grows and the number of active child accounts increases, you should consider upgrading your hosting plan.

We recommend opting for a dedicated server for optimal performance and strongly discourage the use of shared hosting.

Prior to transitioning to in-house hosting for cost efficiency, we successfully utilized dedicated servers from Hetzner and OVH without experiencing any issues.

Measuring Results 💲

There are two primary metrics to assess the effectiveness of a specific source: the follow-back ratio and sales performance. Evaluating how well a source is performing allows for swift, informed adjustments, such as removing or replacing underperforming sources.

___

While it's straightforward to track the number of Instagram users visiting your site using Google Analytics (found under All Traffic > Source/Medium), this method does not pinpoint which Jarvee source yields the highest conversion rates.

To identify the most effective source, we employ a strategy involving discount or coupon codes.

If you’re utilizing the mother/child account strategy with the goal of boosting sales, tracking the origin of specific conversions can be challenging due to the use of multiple source lists. By assigning a unique discount or coupon code to each source, you can effectively track where each conversion originates. This approach necessitates sending direct messages to followers from each source containing the unique promotional code. Our findings show that 97% of purchasers from Instagram applied the code received via direct message during checkout, allowing us to trace the conversion back to its source.

For those using WooCommerce, you can monitor the usage of DM codes by navigating to WooCommerce > Coupons.

Pro Tip: When sending direct messages through child accounts, we recommend using spintax to generate variations of the main message. This tactic helps prevent your child accounts from being flagged for spam by reducing the likelihood of identical messages being sent, which can lead to action blocks or delays on Jarvee.

Analysing Follow Back Results Per Source 📈

Consider the following example: the mother account starts with 100,000 followers.

___

After running a campaign with a source account that has 50,000 followers, the mother account's follower count increases to 135,000 after three days, reflecting a gain of 35,000 followers.

To ascertain whether this growth is directly attributable to the source account, you should compare the follower list of the mother account post-campaign with the source account's follower list.

Pro Tip: For a more accurate comparison, extract both follower lists prior to the campaign and eliminate any current followers of the mother account that are also on the source list.

This will yield a clearer outcome without duplications or previous followings skewing the results.

Website Analytics & Website Conversation Results 🏷️

A recent client, utilizing 1,000 child accounts, achieved impressive metrics over a three-week period from October 16th to November 2nd, following a one-month warm-up phase:

___

- Growth: 171,038 new followers
- Average comments per post: 1,500 to 2,000

- Average likes per post: 17,500 to 20,000

However, acquiring followers alone does not equate to success; conversions to meet the client’s objectives are paramount. In this case, the client marketed a trending gaming plush toy (the Among Us toy) priced at $13.50 excluding shipping.

As illustrated by the Google Analytics data, during this three-week span, the client generated over $40,360.28 in sales from social media, specifically Instagram, directly benefiting from the mother/child strategy.

Key metrics include:

- Followers gained: 171,038 from October 16th to November 2nd
- Website visits from new followers: 44%, equating to 75,240 visitors
- Conversion rate: 3.35%
- Total product sales: $43,665.70

This method can be refined further to enhance sales outcomes. For this particular niche, the client invests a total of $5,381.37 per month across 1,000 accounts.

After two months, the client has seen significant returns on their investment, marking a profitable outcome from this strategy.

Conclusion 🙂

Over the past five years, we have gained extensive insights into using Automation and Instagram effectively.

___

In earlier years, the mother/child method operated with fewer restrictions regarding the number of actions that could be performed and faced minimal scrutiny from Instagram.

However, in the last year, we have navigated algorithm updates and stricter Instagram policies, necessitating adaptability to recent changes.

The mother/child strategy requires weeks or even months of dedicated nurturing and attention to the child accounts to achieve the desired objectives.

It is easy to overlook the significant amount of time required to research and formulate strategies that enhance the effectiveness of this method. A key takeaway from our experience has been the critical role of thorough research.

Conducting proper due diligence significantly boosts the success rate of your campaigns.

The aim of this guide is to clarify the mother/child method and the settings we employ, providing a resource that can assist others in attaining success. We recognize that, despite the depth of this guide, there are many strategies and aspects we have yet to explore.

We hope to address these in a future follow-up.
